Vienna

Vienna is the capital of Austria and has formed its own state since 1922. The city is located in the northeast of the country on the river Danube. It has 1,781,105 inhabitants (2014), and is by far the largest city and the cultural and political center of Austria. Various international organizations have their headquarters in Vienna.

Wenen 300225Traditionally, Vienna is a center of classical music and opera. Since the application of television, the Vienna Philharmonic has been aware of the eye of the world in the traditional broadcast of the New Year's Concert, which is followed by more than one billion viewers. The orchestra was elected "best orchestra of Europe" by experts in October 2006.

Vienna also has many buildings from the Baroque period, but also from different style periods. In the beginning of the 20th century, the Art Nouveau-related Sezession and Jugendstil painting styles flourished in Vienna. Source: Wikipedia.

Sights include St. Stephen's Cathedral, Schönbrunn Palace, Belvedere Palace, Prater Park, the Spanish Riding School, Kunsthistorisches Museum and Schönbrunn Tiergarten.

The most famous shopping street in the center of Vienna is the Kärntner Strass.
