City trip

In Austria there are a number of interesting (historical) cities. Think for example of Innsbruck, Salzburg or Vienna. Perhaps you are considering making a city trip. Innsbruck and Salzburg are easy to travel from Niederau, making Vienna is more difficult.

Innsbruck is an 800-year-old city in the southwest of Austria, and is the capital of the state of Tyrol. It is located on the River Inn, and is a popular winter sports destination. It is also very popular for summer vacations. Innsbruck had a population of 124,579 in 2014.


Salzburg is the capital of the Land of the same name (Salzburgerland). The city has approximately 150,000 inhabitants and thus has a place in the top four largest cities in the country. The city lies on the Salzach River, near the border with Germany. Salzburg is especially famous as the birthplace of Mozart and organizes the Salzburger Festspiele in summer.


Vienna is the capital of Austria and has formed its own state since 1922. The city is located in the northeast of the country on the river Danube. It has 1,781,105 inhabitants (2014), and is by far the largest city and the cultural and political center of Austria. Various international organizations have their headquarters in Vienna.
